Battlestar Galactica é a melhor franquia americana de filmes e séries de televisão de ficção científica, tendo sua primeira produção em 1978. Segundo a série, os humanos surgiram em um planeta distante chamado Kobol, em um passado longínquo. Com o tempo, esse planeta não pôde mais suportar a vida e os humanos, organizados em treze tribos - sendo que uma se perderia das demais (insinuando que esta seria os humanos atuais da Terra), tiveram que procurar outro planeta em outro sistema solar. Milhares de anos depois de estarem instalados em 12 novas planetas (colônias), a tecnologia avançou muito e a inteligência artificial usada pelos humanos ganhou status de forma de vida e consciência própria, chamados de Cilonios. Por algum tempo os Cilonios foram úteis para a humanidade em todas as areas, principalmente na area de serviços. Os Cilônios acreditavam em um Deus único (monoteísmo) e os humanos em vários (politeísmo) como na mitologia grega, causando conflito entre suas culturas. Além disso, por se acharem escravizados e acharem que os humanos não davam valor à sua existência, eles se revoltaram contra seus criadores, declarando guerra. Após aguns anos, a guerra chegou ao fim através de um acordo (Armistício) que durou 40 anos. Período em que os Cilonios sumiram. Quando então executaram um plano de destruição em massa dos humanos que reduziu a humanidade de 12 bilhões de pessoas a aproximadamente 50.000 sobreviventes. Sem alternativas, esses sobreviventes decidiram, sob a liderança do Comandante Adama, procurar por uma lendária décima terceira tribo, que havia deixado Kobol antes das outras doze tribos e havia se dirigido "a um planeta brilhante conhecido como Terra". Battlestar Galactica è una serie televisiva statunitense di genere fantascientifico, facente parte dell'omonimo franchise. La serie venne creata da David Eick e Ronald D. Moore come remake della serie televisiva Galactica del 1979 creata da Glen A. Larson. L'Ammiraglio Adamo, che insieme a suo figlio Apollo è uno dei pochi a credere a Kara, le affida il comando dell'astronave Demetrius e una truppa con cui raggiungere la Terra. Gaius Baltar viene ospitato da una setta di cui diventa presto il leader e tramite la quale diffonde la sua rinnovata fede monoteista. La missione di Kara si conclude quando la Demetrius entra in contatto con un base nemica e Scorpion si allea con un gruppo di cyloni ribelli che come i coloniali desiderano raggiungere la Terra e porre fine ai conflitti. Gli Ultimi Cinque vengono improvvisamente attratti da un segnale proveniente dal Viper di Scorpion. Seguendone la rotta, la Flotta raggiunge la Terra, che risulta però essere disabitata, altamente radioattiva e in piena rovina. L'umanità si rimette in viaggio, ma l'amara delusione provoca numerosi suicidi (tra i quali quello della moglie di Lee Adamo, Anastasia Dualla) e altrettante rivolte. Il quinto degli Ultimi Cinque fa ritorno sul Galactica: è Ellen Tigh, la moglie del Colonnello. Insieme a lei giunge Boomer, che rapisce Hera, la figlia di Karl Agathon e Athena. Bill Adamo organizza una spedizione di volontari che scagli un ultimo, pesante attacco alla Colonia, base cylone dove viene tenuta prigioniera Hera. La missione ha miracolosamente successo, ma il Galactica è ormai allo stremo delle forze. Adamo ordina a Kara Thrace di far saltare l'astronave in un luogo qualsiasi, pur di allontanarla dai cyloni...
